Having a laugh in Brighton

When a hen party books a weekend in Brighton, you can always guarantee one thing: the girls will be having a laugh. Well, if laughter is your medicine, then Doctor Brighton has the prescription for you: The Brighton Comedy Fringe.

Picture 1

Running as part of the Brighton Festival Fringe, the comedy fringe will be hosted at venues all over the town. But don’t expect it all to be family-friendly fun. Acts here vary from the irreverent and irrelevant, to the downright filthy, so check before you book.

Acts and shows are to be hosted at Upstairs at Three and Ten, The Quadrant and of course at Komedia – the most obscurely titled is perhaps the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre. Sock puppets perhaps, but expect swearing – and hopefully lots of laughter.

Further oddities include 3D comedy at the Sanctuary cafe, with local rib-ticklers trying out their routines – fantastic food too; improvised comedy madness at the Latest Music Bar (formerly Joogleberry Playhouse) and Barbara and Yogashwara’s Safe Space (although not safe for families and kids) – you’ll need to book early for this poke at spiritualism, I think it’s performed in a caravan!

Tickets are usually cheap, and with so many performances on offer, mirth and rib-tickling are guaranteed.

The Brighton Festival Fringe runs from May 1-May 23
