With so many of us choosing to come to Brighton for a day on the beach, lets look at one book that you need to pick up before you settle in the sun.

This is not a novel for the children. But for those of you on the lookout for a dark thriller, something to cast a sinister shadow over the streets, it’s a great read.

Brighton Rock: Graham Greene

Graham Greene, described the first 50 pages as a detective story – so it’s a novel. However, he also explained that the places you read about do exist, just perhaps with a different name. And the gang leader he writes of is also based on a real character from Brighton’s underworld.

So, mainly fiction, but part fact. Really should find its way into your beach bag for when you visit Brighton this year.
