One of the town’s most historic and best-loved venues is set to re-open. The Hanbury Ballrooms will be reborn as the Brighton Ballrooms from Friday 2nd June, and get a £300,000 makeover!
The opening night party looks set to be a sell-out, and thanks to the influence of one of Brighton’s top culture couples, the Brighton Ballrooms is again making the headlines.
With a history spanning 200 years, the Ballrooms has spent time as a boxing club, a gentlemen’s club and even an air-aid shelter!
It’s perhaps best known as a place to party, something new management is keen to continue.
Alex Proud, local entrepreneur, promoter and all-round culture-dude has lined up some top acts for the opening night, which is inspired by the 1960s – so expect cinema projections, ska, RnB, Motown and Psyche Garage.
Once the opening night’s dust has settled, the makeover will begin. Alex hands over to his wife Danielle Proud, designer and TV personality, who will bring her skills and glamour to the redesign.
So, by mid-Autumn the Brighton Ballroom will then also be a luxury supper club, having its original style rediscovered and served up for all to enjoy.
Brighton boy Alex is loving working in the city, getting the Brighton Ballrooms ready to party once more: “Getting involved in this project has felt very much like a homecoming. I spent my childhood in my father’s stamp shop in the Old Lanes so it is an honour to open my own business here in Brighton.”
If you are down for the weekend pop in. The Brighton Ballrooms are just behind Kemp Town, and with future line-ups to feature DJ Boogaloo Stu, the size zero and Darran Duran, it is definitely the hot ticket, for a hot July.Share on Facebook
